Sunday River Announces
Improvements to Mountain Bike Park!
Regional Mountain Bike News
Newry, ME (Summer 2010) – Sunday River
will open its mountain bike park for the summer on Friday, June 25, 2010.
New this year, downhill mountain bikers can expect two new trails, a bigger
pump track, new skills park, and extended “Keep it Going” jump line.
“The evolution of mountain biking is
changing and we’re responding to it with this summer’s list of
improvements,” said Steve Boulanger, director of the Sunday River Mountain
Bike Park. “Our guests want varied terrain with improved features and we’re
excited to be able to provide both.”
New trails this summer include Tango
and Crash, an intermediate trail located off of the Three Mile Trail and Not
Trail, a single track top-to-bottom expert trail located directly under the
resort’s Chondola lift.
Beginners will benefit from Easy
Tiger, a trail built at the end of last summer that spreads over nearly half
a mile and features a gradual pitch and hand-sculpted turns.
The addition of these trails brings
Sunday River’s total trail count to 30 trails of varying ability spread over
25 miles. Sunday River’s jump line, also known as Keep it Going, will
undergo construction to lengthen the trail by 50 percent. Upon completion,
Keep it Going will run over a mile in length and boast twice as many
features.
In the meantime, riders can work on
their technique in the resort’s new skills park located near the base of
South Ridge Lodge. The new park features boxes from the resort’s winter
terrain park adapted for summer use, plus a teeter totter and elements found
on trails. Located just downhill from the skills park, riders will find
bigger pump tracks featuring improved berms and rollers.
The Sunday River Mountain Bike Park is
open Friday – Sunday, 10 – 4 p.m. Prices for the 2010 summer season are as
follows: adult (ages 13 years and older) all day lift ticket, $28; junior
(12 years and younger) all day lift ticket, $16; and trail access (no lift
