Lynn Woods
Trail Maintenance - 2009
Project Location: Lynn Woods
Project #: LYW20090912
Date:
09.12.2009
On Saturday September 12 the third
2009 Lynn Woods trail project was completed with great success. We were able
to complete 5 separate projects regardless of the inclement weather and
enhance the hill climb by adding a few features.
The lower half of the Wolf Pit’s Trail
climb (below Showtime) was the site our trail work. This was phase 3 of
repairing the trail climb that has been broken down into multiple trail days
over the past 5 years. Our goals were to redirect water that still trickles
down the lower climb section and greatly reduce the undercutting of the
trail thread caused by additional water run off and user traffic.
Regardless of heavy rain all of the
volunteers worked diligently to ensure each of the 5 projects were completed
100%. First we enlarged and lengthened the drainage ditch for the 10” PVC
pipe installed 5 years ago to keep it from frequently clogging. Next we dug
a secondary ditch down hill of the PVC 10 since some water was draining
under the rocks and coming back out onto the trail. Next we built a rock
bridge on a trail connect just upstream of the PVC pipe. This will allow
riders to hit the technical challenges without needing to cross through the
water stream. We then closed off a short section of trail that has become
more and more of a drainage line over the years. Last we rock armored the
increasingly large undercut that has occurred due to water runoff and user
traffic. This rock armoring has essentially created a sweet berm that can be
used maintain speed down the hill or assist in climbing without causing
accelerated erosion.
As usually, this was another large
project and everyone worked hard to get the job done. I want to extend my
personal thanks to each individual (listed below) that helped complete this
project. The amount of work completed by the volunteers was backbreaking,
but the end result was fantastic! I look forward to see everyone again in
future trail builds and or maintenance projects.
