Lynn Woods Update 10.11.09
(Posted Date: 10.11.2009)
On Sunday October 11, the forth and
final Lynn Woods trail project for 2009 was completed with great success.
This project took the team of 6 volunteers more then 7 hours to complete due
to some unforeseen technical difficulties.
This project extended both ends of the
famous Meeting House Swamp Bridge to eliminate the soft eroding trail
resulting from a decade of heavy use. 20+ feet of additional elevated bridge
was added onto either end of the trail and is blending nicely into the
existing structure as to appear seamless.
This was a difficult project since one
end of the bridge was sitting in water while the other was buried in 12 of
mud. Both ends were raised and new footings were installed and extended to
more stable ground. In addition, both ends of the bridge are now rock
armored to reduce potential transition erosion from the trail surface to the
wooden deck.
This was a huge project that, as
usual, took three hours longer than estimated. I want to extend my personal
thanks to each individual (listed below) who helped complete this project.
We also want to give a shout-out to all the trail riders who stopped during
their morning rides to help our team move the lumber from the drop point to
the work site, saving us a ton of time. I look forward to see everyone again
in future trail builds and or maintenance projects.

Lynn Woods Update 09.12.09
(Posted Date: 09.12.2009)
On Saturday September 12 the third
2009 Lynn Woods trail project was completed with great success. We were able
to complete 5 separate projects regardless of the inclement weather and
enhance the hill climb by adding a few features.
The lower half of the Wolf Pits Trail
climb (below Showtime) was the site our trail work. This was phase 3 of
repairing the trail climb that has been broken down into multiple trail days
over the past 5 years. Our goals were to redirect water that still trickles
down the lower climb section and greatly reduce the undercutting of the
trail thread caused by additional water run off and user traffic.
Regardless of heavy rain all of the
volunteers worked diligently to ensure each of the 5 projects were completed
100%. First we enlarged and lengthened the drainage ditch for the 10 PVC
pipe installed 5 years ago to keep it from frequently clogging. Next we dug
a secondary ditch down hill of the PVC 10 since some water was draining
under the rocks and coming back out onto the trail. Next we built a rock
bridge on a trail connect just upstream of the PVC pipe. This will allow
riders to hit the technical challenges without needing to cross through the
water stream. We then closed off a short section of trail that has become
more and more of a drainage line over the years. Last we rock armored the
increasingly large undercut that has occurred due to water runoff and user
traffic. This rock armoring has essentially created a sweet berm that can be
used maintain speed down the hill or assist in climbing without causing
accelerated erosion.
As usually, this was another large
project and everyone worked hard to get the job done. I want to extend my
personal thanks to each individual (listed below) that helped complete this
project. The amount of work completed by the volunteers was backbreaking,
but the end result was fantastic! I look forward to see everyone again in
future trail builds and or maintenance projects.

Lynn Woods Update 05.16.09
(Posted Date: 05.18.2009)
On Saturday May 16 the second 2009
Lynn Woods trail project was completed with great success. It was a
beautiful day for trail work and we had a number of dedicated volunteers who
attended to get the job done. Saturday was a continuation (Phase 3) of
repairing and reconditioning Overlook Trail. We are happy to say more work
was completed then originally planned for this project!
The top of Overlook Trail near
Overlook Crag was the site of our trail work. We re-routed a 200 foot
section of trail near Overlook Crag on the downward run towards the Great
Frog Boulder. 10 volunteers worked with lightening speed to clear and mark
this new trail re-route that was heavily over grown with trees. We completed
this task within 2 hours leaving us plenty of time to armor some soft
sections and close off the original trail with plenty of deadfall.
This new re-route is packed with a
bunch of natural technical features. Some features include rock rollers,
rock berms and a large boulder wall ride! The trail thread is still soft and
many of the technical features are not 100% complete, but the trail is open
and ride able. We will be out during the summer months monitoring and
finishing up the technical features as required.
As usually, this was another large
project and everyone worked hard to get the job done. I want to extend my
personal thanks to each individual (listed below) that helped complete this
project. The amount of work completed by the volunteers was backbreaking,
but the end result was fantastic!
I look forward to see everyone again
in future trail builds and or maintenance projects.

Lynn Woods Update 04.29.09
(Posted Date: 04.29.2009)
On Sunday April 26 the first 2009 Lynn
Woods trail project was completed. It was a hot day and we had a limited
number of volunteers who should up. Because of these factors, we had to
scale back the amount of trail work. Our goal was to build-up and armor the
three major turns on the Espresso Trail, but we were only able to complete
one.
The 85 plus degree weather (crazy for
April) did not stop the 7 volunteers that worked hard digging, pulling rocks
and cutting trees to build up the first switchback turn on the top of
Espresso. This switchback was originally cut tight, but we decided to open
the turn up by bench cutting the trail line higher into the hillside making
the turn wider. We will revisit this trail over the next few weeks making
any required adjustments to refine the berm.
As usually, this was a good size
project and even with the April heat wave, everyone work hard to get the job
done. I want to extend my personal thanks to each individual (listed below)
that helped complete this project. The amount of work completed by the
volunteers was backbreaking a difficult working on the hillside. I look
forward to see everyone again in future trail builds and or maintenance
projects.

NEW Lynn Woods Mountain Bike
Trail Map!
(Posted Date: 01.31.2009)
We have been working with Park Management
for a number of years regarding the modified map we created for Lynn Woods.
In 2005 we were able to publish our first version of the Lynn Woods Trail
Network containing may trails used by mountain bikers.
With our continuing trail efforts, we
have decided to create a second release since a number of changes have
occurred in the past 4 years. This "Revision 2 Map" is not an official
maps, but we are able to provide a number of trail annotation for the biking
community as a reference...
